Sascha Feinstein named Artist of the Year

Sascha Feinstein, editor of The Jazz Poetry Anthology, The Second Set, Ask Me Now, and the forthcoming The Jazz Fiction Anthology, is the recipient of one of the 2008 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Pennsylvania. Governor Edward G. Rendell will present Feinstein with the Artist of the Year award at a ceremony at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on November 12. The annual awards honor outstanding Pennsylvania artists, arts organizations, and patrons who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the arts. Congratulations, Sascha!

Demise of the printed book?

According to a recent Library Journal article, 40 percent of publishing industry professionals surveyed at the Frankfort Book Fair think that digital content will overtake print sales by 2018. But 33 percent of the respondents believe that digital sales will never surpass print sales. Publishers are divided, but what do the consumers of our content think about the future of the printed book? Lee Hamilton to speak tonight at IU

As part of the Indiana University Libraries Archives and Special Collections program on "Politics and Presidents," Lee H. Hamilton, former Indiana congressman and author of How Congress Works and Why You Should Care, will speak tonight on "Congress and the President" from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium (room 015) on the IU-Bloomington campus. Hamilton will be introduced by IU Press director Janet Rabinowitch. This event is free and open to the public. Click for a complete event schedule.

IU Press authors' work displayed at new Indianapolis airport

The Indianapolis International Airport selected Jeffrey Wolin's work to be featured in its gallery space. Sixteen of the 30 photographs Wolin took for his book, New Faces at the Crossroads, will be on display when the airport opens Nov. 12. The portraits that appear at the airport and in the book are of immigrants from around the world who made central Indiana their home.

The airport also features work by another IU Press author, Norbert Krapf, whose books include Bloodroot and Invisible Presence. His poem "Back Home" is part of one of the stained glass windows at the airport.
