Author interviewed by NPR for piece on giving circles

NPR recently did a piece on giving circles, a philanthropic practice where people pool their resources and collectively decide how to distribute them. Angela Eikenberry, author of a forthcoming IU Press book which examines this phenomenon, Giving Circles: Philanthropy, Voluntary Association, and Democracy, was interviewed for the segment. Book review: Work and Faith in the Kentucky Coal Fields

This book abides: The Year's Work in Lebowski Studies

Our book about The Dude is not in yet, but some people in the blogosphere are already looking forward to its publication this fall (as am I!). I recently came across this post about our book on the beliefnet blogs. I thought it was intriguing (and a little unusual) that the movie would be discussed on a spiritual website, but then through some online research, I discovered that there is a religious movement called Dudeism. (You can even be ordained as a Dudeist Priest.) So if there can be scholarship on The Big Lebowski, then why not a religion as well, right?

I'll post more on The Year's Work in Lebowski Studies as we get closer to the publication date. This will be a fun read for fans of the Coen brothers' movie. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

Scott Russell Sanders's essay appears in Georgia Review

The spring issue of The Georgia Review features an essay by Scott Russell Sanders. Sanders is the author of a recent collection of environmental essays entitled, A Conservationist Manifesto. Menahem Pressler to accept Lifetime Achievement Award for Beaux Arts Trio

Menahem Pressler, distinguished professor at the IU Jacobs School of Music, will accept a 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from The Edison Foundation on behalf of the Beaux Art Trio at the Edison Klassiek Gala June 11 in The Hague. Pressler is the subject of a recent biography (Menahem Pressler: Artistry in Piano Teaching) published by IU Press. Read more about Pressler and the award from the IU News Room.
