Happy birthday, Beethoven!

On this day back in 1770, Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. Two hundred and forty-one years later, Beethoven has become a cultural icon in America. Michael Broyles's new book, Beethoven in America, explores this phenomenon. In honor of Beethoven's birthday, we offer a this free excerpt from the book. The Jazz Kitchen to host 80th birthday celebration for David Baker

The Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis will host an 80th birthday celebration for David Baker Wednesday, December 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The evening will include a cocktail reception, buffet dinner, and music by Brent Wallarab and the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, the David Linard Trio, and American Pianists Association’s Jazz Fellowship Awards finalist Zach Lapidus. Monika Herzig, author of a new book on David Baker, will also be in attendance. Tickets for this black-tie event are $125 and can be purchased online.
