“I once sang at Carnegie Hall. I used to be in the Indianapolis symphonic choir, and we took a program on tour and sang on the big stage.” —Rhonda Van Der Dussen, Sales and Marketing Assistant
Originally from Bloomington, Rhonda Van Der Dussen has spent most of her life in this city. She attended Indiana University, and got a part-time job here at IU Press in the late '80s. She was promoted to her current position in 2004.
As the Sales and Marketing Assistant, Rhonda handles the essential day-to-day tasks of the marketing team, including ordering exam and desk copies of books, sending out author questionnaires, mailing books for the sales representatives, and handling book award submissions.
She loves the variety of her job—every day she is doing something new. “Whenever someone needs help with something, they’ll ask me to do it, so I get to work on many different things.”
Rhonda’s background is in music. Prior to working at IU Press, she was doing freelance piano accompaniment and teaching piano lessons. However, the transition to publishing was pretty seamless. “I’m a bookworm and I love being around books.”
When it comes to reading in her free time, Rhonda likes just about anything, but she most enjoys books on history, religion, biographies, science fiction, and fantasy. Her favorite author is C.S. Lewis.
She has been a proud member of IU Press since 1989.
