“I really like that I get to make something physical, and I like to read, so being apart of scholarly publishing is very satisfying. I’m putting information into the world for people that could one day be experts on the topic.” —Kristin Ousley, Production Assistant
Kristin first became involved with IU Press when she was a junior at IU getting her degree in graphic design. She interned at the Press and her first day on the job was the day she interviewed.
“They asked me if I wanted to start that day, and I said yes. I really couldn’t do much because I was in professional wear. It was in the old building and the vault was floor-to-ceiling book shelves with the rolling ladders, so I didn’t climb up that wearing a skirt, obviously.”
After graduating in 2014, a position opened up and Kristin felt very lucky to already know the people at IU Press and what the position was about. She is now the Production Assistant and does administrative work and project management, overseeing the production schedule and sending books to the printer. She especially likes working on the physical side of things to make the books happen.
In her free time, Kristin enjoys drawing, hiking and discovering new places she reads about in some of her IU Press favorites, the Indiana State Parks book and A Guide to Natural Areas of Southern Indiana. She also enjoys cooking and discovering new flavors at local restaurants in Bloomington, including Dats, Anatolia, and Taste of India.
Proud member of IU Press since 2014.
