IU Press book Divination's Grasp: African Encounters with the Almost Said by Richard Werbner will be honored this month with an honorable mention for the 2016 Elliott P. Skinner Award.
The Elliott P. Skinner Award is presented annually by the Association for Africanist Anthropology to the book that "best furthers both the global community of Africanist scholars and the wider interests of the African continent as exemplified by the work of Elliott P. Skinner."
Skinner was an anthropologist and author who served as a U.S. ambassador to Upper Volta.
Divination's Grasp focuses on Tswapong culture in Southern Africa. The work touches on contemporary use of divination and its role in wider African society.
Werbner will receive the honor on November 17.
