AMPATH, the more than 20-year-old partnership between Indiana University School of Medicine and Moi University School of Medicine to fight HIV/AIDS in Kenya, has received a three-year, $5 million USAID grant.
According to the IU Home Pages, the grant will allow for "the expansion of the network of clinics to
provide more comprehensive care to people in western Kenya."
This remarkable partnership, which has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, is the subject of an IU Press book published last year. In Walking Together, Walking Far author Fran Quigley describes how the IU-Kenya partnership demonstrates that medicine and caring can overturn preconceived notions about Africa and
help wipe out the world's most devastating pandemic.
