Army Film and the Avant Garde, a scholarly work from IU Press author Alice Lovejoy, has been recognized with an Honorable Mention by the Department of
Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Southern California.
The recognition is in conjunction with the University of Southern California Book Prize in Literary and Cultural Studies. The university has selected a notable work each year since 2009 to receive the award, and though Army Film and the Avant Garde wasn't the 2016 winner, it was still recognized as an outstanding work.
The book examines how governmental and military pressure shaped the world of film in postwar Czechoslovakia. The print version of the book includes a DVD featuring sixteen short films produced during the era examined in Lovejoy's research.
Army Film and the Avant Garde was published by IU Press in 2014.
